How to Become a Largo Flying Club Member

Step 1

Enroll with The Academy Of Model Aeronautics.  (AMA) This organization provides many services, but foremost it provides insurance for modelers in case of a serious or injurious accident. Once you are enrolled with the AMA via Online application you can then apply to The Largo Flying Club for membership. After you have enrolled with the AMA they will send you a membership card. You can get a email confirmation in a relatively short period of time in lieu of waiting for your card, which can be used to obtain club membership. 

Step 2

Register Your Drone(s) with the FAA It's the law! Yes they are all called drones now not RC planes.

Step 3

Take The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) TRUST provides education and testing on important safety and regulatory information. If you fly your drone recreationally under the Exception for Recreational Flyers, you must pass the test before you fly. (the test is free to take and easy to pass, they provide the answers)

Receive your certificate

  • After you pass the test, you will receive a certificate from the test administrator.
  • Test administrators will not keep a record of your certificate. You must present a copy of your certificate if asked by law enforcement officers.

Step 4

We now accept memberships online Use the menu above to Join/Renew Membership or Print Membership Application, complete it, and bring it with you to a club meeting or give to a club officer at the field. You must also complete steps 1,2 and 3 above.

New members must pay a $50.00 initiation fee.
Dues are pro-rated to the following schedule:
$50.00 + $80.00 = $130.00 between January 1st and March 31st
$50.00 + $60.00 = $110.00 between April 1st and June 30th.
$50.00 + $40.00 = $90.00 between July 1st and September 30th.
$50.00 + $20.00 = $70.00 between October 1st and November 30th.
$50.00 + $80.00 = $130.00 between December 1st and December 31st (for the new year)

There is a convenience fee of 3% to pay/renuew menbership online. If you do not wish to pay a convenience fee please attend and pay at a club meeting. See Upcoming Events below for the next meeting date.

We offer a youth membership at no cost for persons 17 years old and under. Youth membership must be done in person at a club meeting or at the field meeting with a club officer. Select  Print Membership Application, complete it, and bring it with you. You must also complete steps 1,2 and 3 above.
